The Certosa Municipal Cemetery, with its long portico that connects it to the Meloncello and the network of its covered paths, could not be excluded from the porticoes inscribed on the World Heritage List. In fact, it is not only the pious destination of the last earthly journey, but also an open-air museum of funerary architecture that includes paintings and sculptures from the early nineteenth century to the present day.
Distinguished visitors and ordinary people have crossed its cloisters and lawns over time, often leaving admiring testimonies on the works of art scattered everywhere. Evidence of such beauty is increasingly documented thanks to the website: https://www.storiaememoriadibologna.it/la-certosa
So we discover that the Certosa is home to, among others, the painter Giorgio Morandi, the Nobel Prize winner for literature Giosue Carducci and the writer Riccardo Bacchelli, the singers Lucio Dalla and Carlo Broschi known as Farinelli. Also the world of industrial production in Bologna is present with the tombs of the founders of the companies Maserati, Ducati and Weber and of the publishing house Zanichelli.
Many initiatives are constantly proposed to enhance this considerable heritage and so a special page has been set up on the website that takes into account all the events, conferences, concerts and guided tours for adults and children.
Today, a workshop for children is planned to hunt for the painted remains of the first guests of the Certosa: https://www.museibologna.it/risorgimento/schede/certosa-dipinta-mediazione-3242/
Enjoy your visit!
