NThere is not much time left to visit a series of exhibitions located in different venues inside the components of the Porticoes serial Site which have one thing in common: they focus on the activity of Francesco Arcangeli (1915-1974)
2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the death of this intellectual who was a journalist, a poet but above all an art historian, deeply impressed in his youth by the teaching of Roberto Longhi. We owe him exhibitions and texts that have become part of basic artistic literature. Among these, we would like to mention the catalogue of the 1970 homonymous exhibition, Nature and expression in Bolognese-Emilian art, a volume which is considered his masterpiece. In this catalogue he investigated, with an elegant and cultured prose, the natural, expressive and popular constants of the pictorial tradition of our territory, which like an underground river re-emerge over the centuries to mark the work of a variety of protagonists, from Wiligelmo to Giorgio Morandi, who was an influential figure for Arcangeli.
The exhibitions can be visited both at the Pinacoteca Nazionale and at the MAMbo and are connected to each other by the word 'TRAMANDO' that Arcangeli used very often in his writings and that indicates
"a hidden thread of thought, an unconscious affinity of vision of the world, which connects different artists in time and space and allows us to find common denominators. It is the tradition in which we were born and walk and that we will leave to the generations that will follow"
These exhibitions (three inside the MAMbo and one at the Pinacoteca) can therefore help us improve the knowledge of a great man of culture and grasp the red thread that illuminates the understanding of the structures of our creative thought.
