Libreria Antiquaria Palmaverde was established in 1948 by Roberto Roversi and his wife Elena Marconi. A former resistance fighter and a poet, journalist and intellectual, Roversi turned the Palmaverde Bookshop into a unique place for exchanging views and discussion, which spread 20th-century culture and also gave hospitality and voice to young poets. It became the city’s intellectual point of reference. In 1955, together with Francesco Leonetti and Pier Paolo Pasolini, he founded Officina magazine on the premises of the bookshop. The first location was at 4 Via Rizzoli. It was later transferred to 35 Via Castiglione, and finally to 4 Via de’ Poeti. After almost 60 years of business, the bookshop closed in 2006.
