ROCK – Regeneration and Optimisation of Cultural heritage in creative and Knowledge cities
ROCK is an innovation action project led by the Municipality of Bologna in collaboration with the University, which aims to show how European historic city centres can become permanent laboratories where new urban regeneration model can be tested.
ROCK specific focus is Cultural Heritage as a common good, and the project will test several possible transformations from different points of view: economic, social and environmental.
Within the project, which involves 32 partners from 13 European countries, historic centres turn into testbeds for new regeneration formulas and new ways to access cultural heritage; foster a new perception of collective property as common and shared heritage, therefore supporting social cohesion; facilitate the availability and use of heritage spaces for all users, also thanks to ICT technologies; test new solutions to attract citizens, students, tourists, activities, events and cultural operators, which will improve the economic, social, cultural and environmental quality of cities.
Alternative use of public and private spaces, urban regeneration, innovation, resiliency, cultural promotion, participation and co-design, accessibility, social inclusion and replicability are therefore the keywords which revolve around the concept of Cultural, Creative and Sustainable District.
In Bologna, the selected demonstration area concentrates between via Zamboni and its University district and Piazza Maggiore, and activities which will be developed in the defined zone will aim to the following 4 macro objectives: 1 – Valorization and discovery of hidden trasures; 2 – Non conventional use of spaces and Cultural Heritage; 3 – Sustainable District; 4 – Accessibility.
