SERN - Sweden Emilia-Romagna Network

SERN, a transnational network for European integration, plays a significant role in facilitating multilateral relations between Northern and Southern Europe, with particular attention to cooperation between Sweden and Italy. As a network created by Swedish and Emilia-Romagna local-regional administrations and composed of 59 members, mainly local and regional authorities, SERN stands out for its multilevel structure and its involvement of civil society and the private sector.

SERN's objective is to promote the structural development of relations between local and regional authorities in Sweden and Italy. This is achieved through a horizontal approach involving a wide range of actors from participating public authorities, as well as educational institutions, non-profit organizations and other economic actors interested in establishing new contacts and developing new cooperation projects.

Over the years, SERN has initiated over 130 projects at the European level, serving as a catalyst for a continuous process of exchange and cooperation between Swedes and Italians.

SERN's strategy focuses on various key sectors, including providing services for vulnerable groups, promoting active citizenship, ensuring quality education and adopting digitalized, efficient and transparent public administrations. It also aims to promote a green agenda, with actions aimed at reducing vulnerability to climate change, supporting sustainable tourism and implementing smart mobility solutions.

With its established ties between local and regional authorities, SERN continues to play a leading role in accelerating European integration and promoting sustainable and inclusive growth through transnational cooperation.

Thanks to its experience in European projects and its commitment to international activities, the Municipality of Bologna is part of the SERN network, thus contributing to the promotion of sustainable and inclusive development at the European level.
