The first meeting of
the TERRAIN IPA ADRION project, hosted by the lead partner, the Centre for
Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) / Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT),
successfully concluded. The event brought together the project consortium partners
for two stimulating and productive days. The goal of the meeting was to outline
the project's vision, laying the groundwork for future actions aimed at
promoting more sustainable mobility in the Adriatic-Ionian regions.
The four mentor
cities of the project - Ioannina, Bologna, Ljubljana, and Zagreb - met for the
first time with the five mentee cities: Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina),
Berane (Montenegro), Pančevo (Serbia), Skopje (North Macedonia), and Durrës
(Albania). Each city presented its areas of interest and planned pilot actions,
establishing a shared understanding of the next steps and fostering future
fruitful exchanges.
The meeting was enriched by several presentations from HIT team members, including Deputy Director Georgia Ayfantopoulou, who presented HIT's scientific results on sustainable mobility. Maria Chatziathanasiou also shared the outcomes of the Interreg Europe e-smartec project concerning mobility planning, while Josep Maria Salanova Grau and Evangelos Mintsis highlighted the work carried out in the Thessaloniki Smart Mobility Lab, emphasizing the importance of co-creation with stakeholders to improve mobility management and planning.
Koralia Branioti, a representative of the Interreg IPA ADRION Program, also participated in the meeting, offering valuable suggestions for the project's communication efforts. The city of Bologna also made significant contributions, presenting its innovative initiatives and approaches to sustainable mobility planning. Bologna's presentations covered key topics such as communication activities, engagement, and co-creation within the project's Local Living Labs, capacity building actions, and scalability to strengthen the capacities of participating cities, as well as horizontal communication activities, for which the municipality is responsible, to promote the sharing of experiences and good practices among project partners.
The TERRAIN consortium looks forward to the next three years of collaboration, with the aim of developing innovative solutions for more sustainable mobility. The next meeting will be held in Pančevo, where partners will continue to work together to achieve the project's ambitious objectives.
