A contribution of 5 million Euros has been granted (within the EUI financing framework) to the Municipality of Bologna for urban planning interventions in 3 areas of the city to combat climate change.
The TALEA - Green cells leading the Green transition project – has been funded by the European Union to carry out urban planning interventions to reduce the heat island effect, improve the quality of soft mobility and enhance city green structures. Climate resilience is a fundamental priority of the Municipality of Bologna and this project translates the Administration's commitment to fighting climate change-related phenomena.
The project will put into practice space units that measure one hundred by one hundred metres in size and will be situated in three areas of the city (two in the historic centre and one in a suburban district). Urban interventions based on natural solutions will be conducted in the cells, with the goal of preventing climate change on the urban fabric, promoting soft mobility, and connecting existing green infrastructure.
In addition to the Municipality of Bologna, leader of the partnership, the consortium involves the University of Bologna, Fondazione per l'Innovazione Urbana Rusconi Ghigi, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, R2M, R3GIS, and Cineca.
The project will start in June 2024 and will last over 4 years.
