Bologna - Italy
The Archivio Storico della Nuova Sinistra "Marco Pezzi" (Historical
Archive of the New Left "Marco Pezzi") has been created in 1989 in Bologna,
Italy.
Our archive gathers any kind of written and audio-visual materials
(newspapers, revues, leaflets, posters and other documents, photos, videos)
produced by italian extreme left groups, political parties and organisations
or movements (students, women, interested in peace or environment, ecc.)
since the late sixties up to now.
We think that such an archive can become really precious for the ideas
and historical memory of italian left. We think it is necessary to conserve
all this material, not only to leave the record and the knowledge of what
the left does and thinks, but also because this patrimonio in thought and
ideas must be available to be used in the political struggle. This is most
important now, when both "traditional" and "new" left is in a deep crisis
as far as popularity and production of new ideas is concerned.
For the very purpose of reconstructing a new political theory for the
left, is important to think about what the left has meant, what has been
and what has done in the past: for this reason, to recreate a lively and
propulsive left we created our archive and we continue to keep it up to
date gathering new materials which are poducted nowadays.
